October 2017 PTC Meeting

Attendees: Karen Zwolenski, Gina Hendrickson, Amy Zwart, Tony Hauschildt, Jessica Olstad, Kim Frantz, Heather LaRue, Rachel Rineman, Jennifer Bisbee, Shubba Jain, Becky Smith, Rachel Ring, Adrienne Kelsey, Rosaline Brown, Sarah Watters

September Minutes: 

  • Kim motioned  to approve, Rachel seconded.  Motion passed.

Principal Update:      

  • The 2017-2018 school year is off to a great start!
  • Mrs. Zwolenski recently sent  out a WestWood Express and Smore newsletter with lots of information for the WestWood families.  Links to both of these can be found on Schoology.
  • Homecoming Week is in progress and the kids are having lots of fun with the special days at school.  So far they have had pajama day and backwards day!
  • The staff is gearing up for our annual Readathon – Kick off on Friday afternoon.

Treasurer Report/Budget Update

  • Recent expenses include:
      • Sign Up Genius upgrade for the month of October ($9.99)
      • Ice cream social treats from Schwans ($209.81)
      • Readathon incentives ($281.65)
  • Coming expenses include
      • Chalk for Kindness in Chalk
      • Readathon Prizes
      • Conference Dinners
  • Recent incoming funds include
      • Benevity Donation came in
  • Still waiting on incoming funds from MusicFest and Spirit Wear
  • Recent funding requests
      • WolfRidge Scholarships
      • Art teacher – clay request ($138.00)
  • Amy reported that the $428.39 spent on the 5th grade party last school year all went to busing costs.

Give to The Max Day

  • Give to the Max Day will be on November 16, 2017
  • Information regarding Give to the Max Day will be communicated to the WestWood families by the PTC, but not aggressively pursued

Guest Speaker

  • The Say Yes committee requested to speak at our meeting tonight
  • Their main goals are to
    1. Present the facts
    2. Encourage everyone to get out and vote

Readathon Update

  • The Readathon theme this year is THE AMAZING RACE
  • The Readathon Kick Off Event is Friday afternoon – Tony will be at the assembly
  • Envelopes for collecting donations will go out Friday, Oct 6th
  • The Actual Readthon will take place on November 8th
  • All donations are due November 15th
  • The Get Moving Crew website is almost ready to go
      • The Readathon team is still configuring teacher access/use 
      • Each teacher will have a link allowing them to monitor their classroom progress
  • Sponsors have been secured – Wells Fargo, Toppers Pizza, Eileen’s cookies, Culver’s, Minuteman Press, Air Maxx, Conquer Ninja Warrior, Twin Cities Escape Rooms, Dairy Queen
  • Incentives have been purchased and prizes are planned!!!
      • Students will earn
            • a bookmark for getting registered online
            • a bracelet after their first donation
            • An emoji clip at $60 (This is our PER STUDENT GOAL)
            • At $60 the students will be entered into a drawing to win Air Maxx passes
            • At $60 the students will also earn a car on the race track outside the WW office.  This will be a fun way to track each grade’s progress!!!
            • A private pizza party with the principal at $150
            • At $150 students will also be entered into a drawing for Conquer Ninja Warrior passes
      • Students will earn as a classroom
            • A popcorn party at $1500
      • Students will earn collectively, as a school
          • An Eileens cookie party at $10,000 Prizes Are Set
          • At $20,000 three staff members will get duck taped to the wall!
          • At $30,000 (OUR SCHOOL GOAL!!!) two teachers will camp out on the roof AND the phy ed Department will gain all the gear needed to have a ROLLERBLADING UNIT for all grades!!!!
  • There will be a traveling trophy moving between classrooms with the most money raised
  • Jen K.  and Heather B will post updates on Facebook and the PTC website at 6 points throughout the event. 
  • Tony will reach out to the classroom liaisons to get them involved
  • Volunteers might be needed to help hand out prizes
  • Teachers will also be helping with prizes
